Peggy-s Prompt--Plain White Walls

Plain White Walls

My mother grew up in farmhouses that often had little paint left on the outside and always had plain white walls inside. So when she and Daddy bought their first little home—brand-new with plain white walls—in no time at all she had turned those plaine white walls into an Easter basket. Yellow kitchen, pink bathroom, blue bedroom, green bedroom. The living room was paneled in pine, so it was brown. Like the Easter basket.

After years of living in such gay festivity, I chose to have plain white walls in the houses I’ve owned as an adult. Up till now. I guess I’m entering my second childhood—with a “peachy” bedroom, a “spring greeny” bedroom, a salmon-y kitchen. The only plain white walls are in my office, and I’m thinking a light gold might be nice…..
