The Spirit Moves in Asheville

The Spirit Moves in Asheville

I love Asheville. Nowhere else that I have lived do you find listings such as these in the Saturday paper in the “Religion Calendar--Meetings” section.

First, the Wiccans are meeting today at UNC Asheville on the Quad for a “Pagan Pride Day” from noon till 6.

Then the St. Eugene’s Catholic Church is holding a “Centering Prayer” workshop, to which you should bring a bagged lunch.

St. John the Baptist Church is holding a breast and prostate cancer awareness workshop; featured speaker is deacon Josephine Hall.

The Unity Center has a new meditation group starting Sunday, either featuring or using the techniques of Sri Sri Sri Shivabaloyogi, I can’t tell which.

Again at the Unity Center, there will be a healing circle at which donations will be taken.

The Encouraging Cup of My Father’s House will host an Asheville Aglow Lighthouse outreach meeting.

Great Tree Zen Temple in nearby Alexander features The Rev. Shohaku Okumura on Thursday. Sitting starts at 7, talk follows at 7:30 pm.

The Lake Junaluska Assembly is sponsoring a weekend for women, see details at www.holygroundretreats.org.

SEEDS Singles Group of Bent Creek Baptist Church will meet at 9 am to carpool to Fields of the Wood. Share gas cost and have lunch on the way.

Warren Wilson (College) Presbyterian Church in Swannanoa will study on peace each Sunday.

Great Tree Zen Temple will have Sangha Night zazen and discussions each Thursday at 7 pm.

Coven Oldenwilde needs volunteers. Come to Covenstead at 7 pm every Friday to help.

And last, but not least, All Saints Anglican Church will host MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) from 6-8 pm the second Monday of each month. Child care and a meal provided. (They need it.)
